Appalachian Floor Brooms with Ali Davenport- SEP 26

$140.00

September 26 9:00am to 2:00pm CST

Welcome in the fall equinox while creating a daily use heirloom! Binding together local broomcorn from Sequatchie Cove and a hand carved broom handle from Tennessee Chairmaker Tyler Rogers, you’ll feel the connection to the materials used for generations. During this beginner friendly workshop, we will use our hands and feet to create a traditional woven Appalachian floor sweeper. With discussions on broom care, flat weaving, and harvesting of materials, everyone will walk away with a finished broom. Acknowledging balance and our constant returning during the making of our sweepers will offer an intentional way to move into the slower fall and winter months.

Provided the Broom Corn crop is a success there will be an optional broomcorn harvest in late summer where you will learn about growing and proper harvesting techniques while we work together to gather the crop and prepare it for drying.

Lunch and coffee and tea are included with the tuition.
