The class includes pointers on fabrics for natural dyeing and preparation for dyeing. We will discuss scouring but use fabrics the instructor has pre-scoured for the one-day class. Students will then learn about many aspects of different mordants used to ready the fabrics to receive color, and will use a tannin and two basic mordants. They will prepare three natural dyes using different preparations and dye sample cotton fabrics and organic cotton bandannas.. Finishing will also be discussed. Students will have samples of each dye type and will be able to apply the basic principles in their own practice.
